Introducing MusicianMapper: Band Together, Make Some Noise

Every musician knows the feeling. You've got the songs, the gear, and the itch to play with other people, but the drummer you need is somewhere out there and you have no idea where. Maybe they live three blocks away. Maybe they're playing in their garage right now, wishing for a bass player.

That's why I built MusicianMapper, and I'm thrilled to finally tell you about it.

What is it?

MusicianMapper is a free map of musicians. You add yourself (your instruments, your genres, a short bio, even audio samples), and then you can see everyone else nearby. Click a pin, hear what they sound like, and say hello.

That's the whole idea: put musicians on a map so they can find each other.

See it in action

The map, with musician pins clustered around a city Every pin is a musician. Zoom in to see who's in your neighborhood.

A musician's public profile page with instruments, genres and what they're looking for Every profile has its own shareable page with instruments, genres, a bio and what they're looking for. (This one is a sample profile.)

The filter panel set to drummers who play rock Filter by instrument, genre, skill level, distance and recent activity.

A Wanted post on the map, with its amber WANTED tag Wanted ads appear right on the map, so the right player can spot yours.

What you can do with it

Find players near you

Filter by instrument, genre, and distance. Looking for a bassist who loves funk within 15 miles? Done. You can also filter by who's been active lately, so you're reaching out to people who will actually reply.

Post a "Wanted" ad

Need a pedal steel player for a recording session? A sax for a wedding band? Post a Wanted ad and it shows up right on the map and in the list. Ads stay up for 30 days, and you can renew them if you're still searching.

Get alerts so you don't have to keep checking

Set up an email alert for the instruments and area you care about. When a new musician or a new Wanted post matches, you'll hear about it. Your perfect bandmate might sign up next Tuesday, and you'll know.

Hear before you reach out

Profiles can include audio samples, so you're not guessing about someone's playing. You can also save people to a private list with your own notes, which is handy when you're lining up a lineup.

Share your page

Every profile has its own shareable link, and there are public city pages that list the musicians in each town. Whether you're a booker scouting openers or a newcomer trying to learn about a local scene, you can browse without even signing up.

Built with musicians' comfort in mind

Meeting new people online should feel safe, so I put privacy front and center:

Who is it for?

Honestly, everyone who plays:

No ads, no catch, free for good

There are no ads on MusicianMapper, and I'm not trying to make money from it. I built it because I love bringing artists together, and that's the whole point. I plan to keep it free indefinitely. No paywalls, no premium tier, no selling your attention.

If you love it and want to help cover the costs of keeping it running, there's an optional tip jar. It's completely up to you, and the app works exactly the same either way.

Come say hello

Music has always been about people finding each other: in basements, at open mics, in the back of a record store. I want MusicianMapper to be one more place where that happens.

So head over to musicianmapper.com, drop your pin, and see who's out there. I can't wait to hear what you all make together.

See you on the map! 🎸πŸ₯πŸŽΉ

Have an idea for a feature, or a story about the band you found here? I'd love to hear it.
